Pentair IntelliChlor Salt Chlorine Generator
Hello there again fellow ePoolSupply supporters, today I wanted to talk about the Pentair intellichlor salt chlorine generator. The intellichlor uses common table salt to produce all the chlorine a pool would need. This would eliminate the need to buy and handle chemicals. That means there would be no more spills, odor, stinging eyes, or irritated skin.
How does it work?
The intellichlor salt chlorine generator uses common table salt to produce the chlorine for your pool. It uses a process known as electrolysis to produce chlorine gas which immediately dissolves into a solution to create hypochlorite and hypochlorous. Hypochlorite and hypochlorous kill bacteria, oxidize organic material, and kill algae, then revert to salt. The intellichlor salt chlorine generator reuses the salt and the process starts over again. It is best if you use salt that is evaporated, granulated, food quality, non-iodized salt with no additives. Always check your salt levels before adding salt to your pool. The diagram below shows how it works in the system.
What comes with it?
Everything is push-button operated and has easy-to-view displays. You can choose from one of five sanitizing levels. All you have to do is push a button and you're done. It also shows the salt levels, cell cleanliness, sanitizer output, and water flow. The intellichlor has a flow sensor and it assures that there will always be an adequate water flow. If it doesn't receive adequate water flow, no chlorine will be produced. It has a temperature sensor as well and when the temperature of the pool falls below a certain degree, the sensor switches the intellichlor off. It also has an automatic shut-off feature that protects the unit while also prolonging the life of the cell normally found under low-water temperature conditions. It has on-time cycling which can prevent the overtime build-up of calcium and scale to maximize the life of the cell. The intellichlor salt chlorine generator communicates with IntelliTouch, EasyTouch, and SunTouch automation systems.
This comes in three different sized options based upon the size of your pool.
- IC20 is made to work with pools of up to 20,000 gallons.
- IC40 is made to work with pools of up to 40,000 gallons.
- IC60 is made to work with pools of up to 60,000 gallons.
How to Maintain
There are some weekly and monthly services to maintain and make sure it stays running properly. There are no daily maintenance needs. When doing your weekly maintenance the first thing you need to do is check the ph levels. The next step is to total the alkalinity test. The final step is to do a chlorine test. There are several steps and recommendations for your monthly service. The first step is to check your salt levels. The next thing is to take a pool water sample for testing. It would also be recommended to take a sample of the pool water and test for cyanuric acid, the recommended ideal acid level is 30-50 ppm. It is also recommended to do a metals test such as copper, iron, and manganese. These metals can damage the intellichlor and other related pool equipment. The last thing to do is test the pool water for total dissolved solids.
In conclusion, having the Pentair intellichlor salt chlorine generator will get rid of the use of buying chlorine. It is also low maintenance and easy to use. It is one of the most inexpensive and best cleaning products to use.
