Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend II Pressure Cleaner Installation Guide
Once you have chosen a Pentair Kreepy Krauly Legend II Pressure Cleaner (LL505G) and you are ready to install it, you may encounter a few questions as you work through the process. We here at ePoolSupply have provided this blog as a general guide for you to use while you attempt to install your Legend II. Pentair also includes a user’s manual that should prove helpful if you require a diagram or two. Please take a moment to read through this blog post to obtain some useful tips, tricks, and ideas to assist you in installing your brand-new cleaner!
Installation and Operation
Pressure Test
To begin this procedure, please ensure the pool filter is freshly cleaned. Once that is done, twist lock the Wall Fitting (360024) with the Feed Hose (LX509) into the wall adapter. You will need someone to assist you by holding the Pressure Tester (LX26) end of the Feed Hose underwater while you set the pool pump to the ‘on’ position. Your assistant will want to keep the Feed Hose under the water while you feel around the Pressure Relief Valve on the Wall Fitting to check whether the valve is releasing water pressure. If the valve is not releasing water pressure, your pool pump may not have sufficient water pressure to run the Legend II cleaner.
Cutting the Feed Hose
The Pentair Legend II pressure cleaner comes with a total of 30 feet of hose. To determine the length of hose you will require to run your cleaner, you will need to start by removing the hose from the box and then carefully spreading the hose out in a sunny location. Leave the hose for approximately 24 hours so that it may soften and become more pliable.
Once the hose is ready, ensure your pool pump is on. You will then hold the free end of the hose underwater and gently pull the hose to the furthest diagonal location in the pool. Please do not stretch the hose in order to make it reach the furthest location of your pool; ePoolSupply offers additional six-foot sections (360020) of Feed Hose if you require additional coverage. While you are measuring, please keep in mind that the Legend II does not climb to the top step, so please do not include this area in your calculations.
If the Feed Hose is longer than the length of your pool at a diagonal, mark the excess hose at the location where it hangs over the deck. You will then turn off your pool pump and cut the first six-foot length of hose that is closest to the wall. Your hose should then fit nicely into your pool!
Hooking Up the Cleaner
To start, you will need to remove the pressure tester from the free end of the Feed Hose by unscrewing the Mender Nut (360022). Place the Mender Nut on the Swivel Mast (360023), then connect the open end of the Feed Hose to the top of the Swivel Mast and secure it using the Mender Nut. Keep in mind that the arch of the Feed Hose should be in the same direction as the Swivel Mast - there should be no twists in the Feed Hose.
Once that is accomplished, carefully twist lock the Sand and Silt debris bag (360009) to the top of the Vacuum Tube. Make certain there is a Rubber Debris Valve (EU9) attached to the top of the Vacuum Tube before locking the Sand and Silt debris bag on. You will then attach the Sand and Silt bag clip between the Backup Valve (360018) and the 18” hose section. You will then proceed to place the Legend II cleaner gently into the pool and turn your pool pump to the ‘on’ position. All that remains for this step is to ensure that the wheel's revolutions per minute (RPM) count is between 25-32.
Ensuring Proper Operation
Once your cleaner has been placed in the pool and is operational, you will want to check to make certain that the cleaner is working properly. Your Legend II should travel in random patterns throughout the pool. The climbing ability of the cleaner will depend upon the architecture of your pool as well as the water flow to the pool - the Legend II is most efficient when a pool lacks sharp angles or curves.
If the Legend II is receiving too much water pressure, the Wall Fitting/Pressure Relief Valve will release excess pressure. The cleaner enters a backup mode every three minutes and 30 seconds for approximately 30 seconds; during this time the backup valve pulls the cleaner into a randomized pattern again.
The Sweep Hose (LLB5G) that attaches to the Legend II is a feature that gently sweeps through the water to ensure that dirt and debris do not settle into the corners of your pool.
