How to Rebuild an A&A Top Feed Infloor Cleaning System (DIY #522634)

Today we'll be showing you how to rebuild an A&A Top Feed Infloor Cleaning System using the OEM A&A do-it-yourself Rebuild Kit #522634. Lets dive in!

Needle Nose Pliers
Pool Lubricant

Get in Gear

Before you begin to rebuild the gear assembly, you'll have to access the components inside the cleaning valve. The first step in disassembling the valve is to start with the union connection on the top of the valve housing. Loosen the union until the top is no longer connected to the pool return line. Next, you'll want to move on to the Band Clamp. Using the threaded knob, slowly loosen the clamp until it easily slides off the center of the valve housing assembly. From here you should be able to lift the Top Housing off of the Lower Housing to expose the internal gear assembly. At first glance you will notice that out of the ten gear cogwheels, the two in the center of either side will not have a locking washer installed. This is completely normal so do not be alarmed if these two are missing.

In order to remove the gears easily, the upper shroud on the gear assembly should be removed. You can use your pliers to separate the two sections by spreading the pliers open and popping the shroud off. Once you've removed the shroud, you can start to remove the gears one by one. Starting at the top, use your needle-nose pliers to remove each locking washer and subsequent gear wheel. Once all the gears have been removed, you can start to rebuild the assembly piece by piece. Beginning at the bottom pin on either side, add a gear with the teeth face-down and stack the next gear on the next corresponding pin. Be sure to check that the gears make contact with each other and they all spin freely without restriction. Once you've added all ten gears, you can begin to add the Retainer Clips by hand. Keep in mind that the middle gear on each side will not need a washer. When adding each washer, be sure not to push them too far down the pin. Triple-check each gear to make sure they all work together and spin without any difficulty. If you have to loosen one of the washers, you can lift up on the gear slightly to relieve some of the tension. Once you've confirmed that all the gears and washers are installed correctly, you can replace the shroud. Simply line up the four pegs with the corresponding slots in the gear assembly and snap it into place.
