Hello and welcome! Today we’re going to be covering two of the most innovative pressure pool cleaners available the Hayward Trivac 500 and 700. Before we get started today, a couple of things worth mentioning are that you will need a dedicated booster pump for this unit to function. Also, these models are only available to purchase at your local brick-and-mortar store. With all that said let’s get started!

Similarities

So, let’s start by going through the similarities between both kits. To start off with both come with a 2-year warranty. Both come equipped with low-impact super grip wheels. These wheels provide non-slip grip onto the walls and floor of your pool and reduce wear and tear on the pool’s surfaces. On that note, both cleaners also feature several wheels along the front of the body. These wheels are great for when the body hits the side of your pool. Where a normal cleaner would bounce off these will simply roll along the edge. This also reduces wear on tear on both the body of the cleaner and the walls of your pool. The Trivac’s come with the largest debris bag on the market today. A whopping 6 quarts and a wide mouth allow the cleaner to pick up debris much larger than most other cleaners can handle. The bags themselves are double meshed to prevent anything from spilling out of the bag once inside and the bag itself is easy to remove and clean out. You will also receive a 30-foot powerful sweep hose. A sweep hose differentiates itself from a regular one with a jet in the rear that sweeps side to side behind your cleaner as it moves around your pool. The hose also comes with a filter cleaning screen, a little window into the pump that allows you to see inside and check the direction of the water flow, and the built-in filter so you can easily see when it’s cleaning time.

Differences

The way these cleaners are powered and operate are extremely similar except for a few small differences which we will get into later. As far as powering the cleaner it connects directly to your booster pump which creates the suction in the cleaning track underneath the cleaner. This also powers the jets which are located all over the unit. The Trivac 500 has 3 jets while the 700 actually features 5. They share a front and rear vent that allows it to quickly and easily make sharp turns within the pool and keep the unit moving against any current. The difference between the two is the 500 features one single large jet that pushes debris into the bag while the 700 has three jets in the opening of the mouth that does a far better job at pulling in anything it might come across. The defining feature of the 700 is a small dial on top of the cleaner which when switched actually changes it from a pool cleaner scooting along the bottom of the pool to a skimmer that glides across the surface of your pool and can pick up anything that might be floating there.

So, with all this in mind, while the 500 is still a great product to keep your pool looking its best I would definitely recommend spending the extra 200-250 dollars for the 700 model over the 500 every time.
