A&A Pool Valet Retro Infloor Cleaning Pop Up Head - Overview

Hello there! We're back today with another wonderful blog overview. Periodically we like to inform our customers of the newest updates in the swimming pool industry. Whether it be a simple "who's who" or maybe even a recent update to equipment. This week we will be discussing the A&A Pool Valet Retro Infloor Pop Up Cleaning Heads. Let's dive in!

First we'd like to talk about how an Infloor System works. There are many different versions of in floor cleaning systems out there however, the principal operation for each manufacturer is roughly the same. As with any pool, the water is circulated through a system of suction lines, run through a filter, and returned back into the pool through various pool jets and water features. This is where the infloor system comes in. Once the water has been filtered, it is driven through an actuator which disperses the water at high pressure to a designated "zone" of three to five cleaning heads. These heads "pop up" from the pool floor and spray dirt & debris towards the main suction drain.

Paramount Pool Valet Pop Up Cleaning Head

Originally introduced in the mid-1970's, the Paramount Pool Valet cleaning heads were one of the first ever pop ups to be introduced to the pool market. When they were first released, Paramount had special contracts with Pool Builders at the time to feature their name on the top of the cleaning head. You may see them marked as "Anthony Pool" heads or something similar, but they are all the same pop-up head as long as they feature the four-prong retainer ring shown below. Unfortunately as of 2019, Paramount has stopped production on any new Pool Valet heads and have since run out of inventory, but don't fret! Keep reading below to learn about a better alternative.

The Original Pool Valet heads use a brass weight internally to allow them to drop back into the pool floor once the pressure has fallen and the gear module has advanced to the next station. These weighted assemblies in combination with the threaded retainer ring shown above make up the full, complete cleaning head. The issue with the weighted assembly is there is no guarantee the pop up head will actually rotate and clean a full 360 degrees. That's where the A&A Pool Valet Retro comes in to save the day!

A&A Pool Valet Retro Pop Up Cleaning Head

If you're familiar with Infloor Cleaning & Circulation, then you've heard the name A&A Manufacturing before. Now a Pentair brand, A&A continues to advance the infloor cleaning category and blow the competition out of the water (literally). Such is the case with the Paramount Pool Valet Heads. Now that the original parts have been discontinued, A&A has stepped up to the plate to make replacing your Pool Valet heads seamless. The A&A Pool Valet Retro utilizes A&A's Style 1 design with a little twist. They've added threads to the exterior portion of the Style 1 Head which just so happens to be a perfect fit for the original Pool Valet threaded floor fittings. There is no need to remodel the pool or glue a new collar into the existing floor fitting; just thread them in and you're done! The best part about the A&A Pool Valet Retro is that THEY ACTUALLY ROTATE through twelve positions to give you total 360 degree coverage. The cleaning heads measure 2.5" across the top and 4" from the bottom spring to the top cap. The high flow heads feature a 7/16" orifice to maximize cleaning power. The low flow heads feature a 1/4" orifice to ensure proper cleaning pressure. High Flow pop ups are meant for floor installation to ensure a bigger cleaning radius. Low Flow pop-ups are meant for steps & benches, the smaller output creates the perfect pressure for those hard-to-reach areas. The cleaning heads are easily removed and installed with the A&A Style 1 Tool. Check out the picture below to compare the older Paramount Heads with the updated versions from A&A!

Currently A&A only offers these parts in White, but we're hoping that they start to release them in other colors to match the older Pool Valet Style.
